A styled shoot that is unique in the beauty of its simplicity, it was inspired by the portrait artist Giovanni Boldini. Boldini was an Italian painter who spent most of his career life in Paris. He became the most fashionable portrait painter in Paris in the late 19th century, with a dashing style of painting which shows some Macchiaioli influence and a brio reminiscent of the work of younger artists, such as John Singer Sargent and Paul Helleu.*
Most of Boldini's paintings remain in private collections. This is because most of his paintings were commissioned portraits, society portraits. Everyone who was anyone HAD to have their portrait (or their wife's portrait) painted by Boldini.*
We took our two gorgeous muses- Abby Stubbs and Hanna Bauer, and imagined them standing, perfectly poised for thee artiste Giovanni Boldini. With a simple back drop, a chair, and a beautifully designed bouquet, photographer Elizabeth Wells captured each muse, frozen like one of Mr. Boldini's ladies, precisely in the moment of a portrait being created wearing modern designs.
